Where is Mardi Himal?
Mardi Himal is situated just east of Annapurna Base Camp, and it's in the Annapurna region.
How high is the Mardi Himal base camp?
Mardi base camp is at 4,500 m, and Mardi Himal high camp is at 3580 m.
How difficult is the Mardi Himal trekking route?
The Mardi Himal trek route is moderate, and it’s not difficult like other classic trekking routes. But mostly, you have to walk through the forest up to Badal Danda, and after Badal Danda, you have to walk over the hills. But the tough and narrow part is near the high camp. The trail is really narrow and steep, but there are two routes to get to Mardi base camp and viewpoint. One is steeply up and very risky to walk in darkness, but another way is longer, which is pretty much better than the other.

There are many blogs that are not updated about the trails and hotels because nowadays there are other hotels in High Camp, Forest Camp, Low Camp, and Badal Danda. Before there was only 1 hotel and hard to find rooms. Instead of staying in Forest Camp, it’s better to stay in Rest camp just about 30 minutes walk from Forest Camp. At Rest camp there are 2 hotels so it’s better to book in advance, from here we can see an Impressive view of Mt. Fishtail, Sunrise, and Pokhara valley.
The Mardi Himal Trek route itinerary is mainly focused on a short trek, but the travel companies and guides didn't figure out the best views on this trial. Instead of staying in Low Camp, BadalDanda is one of the best viewpoints on this trail. From BadalDanda, we can see the sunrise, sunset, fishtail, and Annapurna Heuchuli, and the landscapes are just amazing.
Is it possible to complete the Mardi Himal trek in 5 days?
Yes, you can complete the trek within 5 days and even in 3–4 days from Pokhara. Some people hike up to Mardi Himal High Camp in one day, but it depends on you. Personally, we had completed the Mardi Himal trek within 3 days from Pokhara to Pokhara but needed a lot of effort.
Are there hotels at Mardi Himal High Camp?
Yes, there are many hotels, but most hotels are full of Nepalese hikers too, so it’s better to book in advance. They have a good heating system for the dining room, so if you don’t get a room, owners and guides will manage to sleep in the dining hall. Sometimes we even need to sleep in tents. Now, before reaching High Camp and after Badal Danda, there are new lodges that are nicer, and also, the view is best from here.
Best View Points on the Mardi Himal Trek.
This is helpful for those who love photography and want to capture the best of the Mardi Himal Trek. 35mm or 18–200mm lens is good to carry if you want to get landscape shots.
- Pothana View Point is and you shouldn't miss the morning sunrise view.
- Staying at Rest Camp near Forest Camp is another good spot.
- BadalDanda is the best of it.
- High Camp and Mardi Himal upper View Point.
Mardi Himal Base Camp doesn't have that interesting part but is also nice to walk to.
How much does it cost for the Mardi Himal Trek?
Mardi trek cost depends on your length of hiking days; normally, for 4 days from Pokhara to Pokhara, we charge 340 USD + per person. Including all meals, accommodation, guide, porter, trekking permits, and transportation.
If you carry snacks and only take a few soups, then it costs nothing, but hey, are you helping the locals there?
Mardi Himal is all time favorite trek because of the views and can reach a higher elevation within a few days. The magnificent view of Mt. Fishtail from the viewpoint is just amazing, and the sunrise is beautiful from here. If you are expecting cultures on this trial, then there is nothing but a view and a peaceful walk. But adding some villages while walking back, such as Lwang and Ghalel, will give you some typical Nepalese lifestyle experiences. Homestay experience at Ghalel, which you shouldn't miss on this trail.
Mardi Himal Trek in September, October, and November
Trekking to Mardi Himal during September is beautiful because of the grass greenery grassland and the wildflowers, and the movements of clouds. October and November is the best time to trek to Mardi Himal because of clear weather and blue skies. But October and November is the busiest time in Nepal and Mardi Himal will be full of Nepalese people travelers, make sure you are booked lodges before going there.
Mardi Himal Trek in December, January, and February.
December, January, and February are the coldest months, and there will be snow. If you are a snow lover, then it's the perfect month to trek up to Mardi Himal. It may not be possible to trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp because the trail is narrow and slippery.
