Nagarkot-Changu-Narayan Day Hike
Nagarkot is one of the most famous hiking trails for all seasons and all around the year. On this hike, we can see the panoramic Himalayas and a beautiful landscaped valley. Downhill is quite fun, and kids won’t feel that tiring, so we suggest hiking from Nagarkot to Changu-Narayan. This trail is mixed with roads, downhill, flat, and a bit uphill somewhere, but they can do it. If kids feel tired, then you can skip the ChanguNarayan and just hike to Telkot (half of the way) or start from Telkot to Changunarayan. Total hiking hours: 5–6 hours with kids. The elevation of Nagarkot is 2200 m, and it’s safe for kids.
Ranikot Village Day Hike
This hike starts from Suryabinayak temple, which is in Bhaktapur. Ranikot is quite well placed compared to Nagarkot; walking on the road is also safe and not that crowded. Most of the hiking trail is on the road, but we can take a short route through the jungle, which is quite uphill. Most of the schools are taking kids to this place for a day hike. Pilot Baba Ashram is a popular place for Hindu pilgrimage and also a nice place for kids to play around. The air is clean, and we can see Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan valleys from the hilltop. The duration can be made for 5–6 hours up to typical local villages, and it is also possible to drive back from the hill station.
Champa Devi Hill Day Hike
Kids can’t complete whole hikes, but being with our team will make them easy. Champadevi Hill is a newly opened day hiking trail nearby Kathmandu that starts from Kirtipur. Kids will enjoy the half trail because it’s mixed uphill and gradually flat, but half of the trail up to the viewpoint is uphill, and while coming down, it is completely down. Expect fresh air, pine forests, Mt. Langtang ranges, monasteries, and a beautiful view of Kathmandu, Bungmati, and Patan. While coming back, you can visit the Dakshinkali (goddess) temple. Trip length can be 6-7 hours or be short for kids. But once you are with our team, you will be able to complete the whole hike.
Kathmandu: Heritage walk
Actually, it’s a sightseeing trip, but kids will also enjoy walking in different places like Swoyambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. We can’t complete all these places in one day with kids in Kathmandu traffic. 3–4 places can be covered in one day with kids, and it will be a perfect walk for them. While touring around, we will take in different temples, heritage places, which make it feel like a perfect hike.
