    This 6-night, 7-day tour will take you to some of the most popular tourist destinations in Bhutan, including Paro, Punakha, Wangduephodrang, Thimphu, and Phuentsholing.  You'll explore ancient Buddhist temples, travel across breathtaking mountain ranges, and learn about Bhutan's rich culture. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the distinctive Bhutanese way of life, which is founded on the Gross National Happiness ideals. This tour is an excellent way to see the finest of Bhutan in a short period of time. It is ideal for those who want to learn about Buddhism, go hiking, and experience a different culture.

     

    Your flight to Thimphu from Kathmandu is one of the most spectacular in the world. As you disembark, you will be greeted by the cool, clean mountain air. After immigration and baggage collection, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel in Thimphu. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan and is a unique city with a mix of modern and ancient. It is the only capital city in the world without a traffic light! In the evening, you will take a walk around the main street and market area.

    After breakfast, we'll drive to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang), a Buddhist shrine with a massive Buddha statue that offers spectacular views over Thimphu's valley.  Then we'll go to the King's Memorial Chorten, a memorial to Bhutan's third king. Then we'll go to the Textile and Folk Heritage Museums, which highlight Bhutanese culture and traditions.  We'll go to the National Library after lunch, which has a collection of Buddhist texts. We will then go to the Zorig Chusum Institute, where students learn traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts. 

    In the afternoon, we will travel to the Takin Preserve, which is home to Bhutan's national animal. Then we'll head to Trashichhoedzong, a stronghold that serves as Bhutan's political and religious center.  In the evening, we'll go shopping at the Handicrafts Emporium and local crafts bazaar for traditional Bhutanese items.

    After breakfast, we will drive to Punakha across Dochu La, a scenic pass with 108 chortens (stupas). If the weather is clear, we may be able to see some of the highest peaks in Bhutan, including Gangkar Puensum, the tallest mountain in the country.  In the afternoon, we will visit Punakha Dzong, a beautiful dzong (fortress) that served as the capital of Bhutan in the past. We will then visit Chimi Lhakhang, a temple dedicated to fertility. In the evening, we will enjoy a traditional Bhutanese dinner at a local restaurant.

    After breakfast, we will drive to Gangtey, a beautiful valley in the western part of Bhutan. We will visit the Gangtey Gompa, a Nyingmapa monastery that is the winter home of black-necked cranes. We will then explore the Phobjikha Valley, a wetland that is home to many different species of birds. We will also visit the Black Neck Crane Information Centre, which has an observation room where we can see the cranes up close. In the afternoon, we will drive back to Wangduephodrang.

    After breakfast, drive back to Paro. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, one of the oldest dzongs in Bhutan. After checking into the hotel, visit Ta Dzong, now the National Museum. Walk down the trail to Rinpung Dzong, a magnificent dzong with a long history. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Bhutanese dinner at a local restaurant or at the hotel.

    Excursion to Taktshang Monastery (about a 5-hour round trip trek) after breakfast. It is one of Bhutan's most famous monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro valley floor. Guru Rinpoche is supposed to have landed here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery, hence the name "Tiger's Nest." This hallowed spot was visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and is currently visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lives.

    Visit the 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of 108 temples built in the Himalayas by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. The construction of this temple symbolizes the arrival of Buddhism in Bhutan
